College tuition prices today are at an all time high leaving many prospective students unable to attend therefore lost in the economy and as a negative statistic. Should striving to become a tax paying educated citizen come with such a hefty price? I don’t think you should have to choose between affordable education and getting a great quality education.
The typical student in America uses financial aid to attend college and to get an education. In the beginning it seems as easy as pie to get a loan to attend the school of your choice and it is, but repaying the loan is where the hard part begins. Because of the downward fall in the economy, jobs are very difficult to get. Most jobs have hundreds of applicants applying for just a few jobs available and usually at lower wages. Many students are naive to the fact that it is real money they are spending while in college. Huge meal plans and lavish apartments seem to be the norm and not the exception these days. Just because it’s not actual dollars coming out of their pocket it seems to make all the spending ok. It’s painless and with just a swipe of the card you get everything you want instantly, but is it painless?
More and more students today are defaulting on their student loans leaving either their parents with the debt or sacrificing their credit scores which in the end will cost them more in the long run. My hope is that government will step in and regulate the amounts universities can charge. There needs to be more affordable universities out there for middle income and poor students. Another thing I hope the president can accomplish is a forgiveness student loan program or at the very least an interest free loan program subsidized by our government. Education is the only thing that can help the economy and the people in it. We need to do more to help aspiring students achieve their dreams in order to make America what it once was, the "Best Country on Earth."
