Internet Access

We live in an age in which we use the Internet every day. We use it to check the weather in the morning, to turn in our homework and to connect with family members and friends all over the world. It is clear that we college students really on Internet access, and we all know we go through a bad day when we have no Internet, or even a week signal. Kosta Grammatis is a former Avionics system engineer who is now bringing Internet access to rural cities, and villages that have never had Internet in their entire lives.
Kosta Grammatis wants us to know that there are 5 billions people in the world without any Internet access, and he has now put it to himself, to bring Internet access to all these people. In 2009 Kosta Grammatis launched a program in which he was succsfully able to connect Internet in a Peruvian village that had never had Internet. This year Kosta Grammatis is launching a new project in which he plans to expand Internet access in developing countries, while at the same time providing low cost Internet access in already developed countries.
This past April 4th Kosta Grammatis promoted no Internet day, in which he hoped to raise awareness on not having any Internet, and how these 5 billion people go through the same thing everyday. I believe that what Kosta has being doing for the past years is amazing projects in which he can now help billions of people have the same accessibility to internet as us.

  1. I can fully agree that the internet in today’s world is essential for the working man and student. For example, I myself have gotten used to using emails more since I had left high school. This new way of communication is still new to me because I never had any real use of it up until college. Learning how to network and plan ahead accordingly has really been beneficial to me in the past year or so. The fact that this organization is trying to bring internet to those who have never had it will definitely change their lives. This was a very good article.

  2. It is true that the world we live in is so dependent on technology, without it we would not be able to function properly and go on doing our everyday tasks that have also become dependent on the internet and technology. As a sorority member I have to constantly relay information to my fellow sisters and without the internet we would not function as efficiently as we do now. Everyone should be able to have access to the internet because the world we live in is so involved with it.

  3. I agree that the internet is vital in our everyday lives. I began surfing the internet as a form of education, but now it has evolved into looking up silly pictures and funny videos. When the internet is down for five minutes, I feel like the world is going to end. The internet is full of knowledge and entertainment and I don't know where we would be without it.

  4. The internet is great! It has anything and everything; literally. I think internet access is good because it gives people a means of education. You can learn anything on the internet; you can even learn as much as what a college degree would give you except on the internet you’re not paying tuition. I will say this however; the internet is not always good. I have procrastinated so much at times just because the internet provided a nice source of entertainment when I probably should have been studying instead. The internet is great, but one needs to be responsible when using it.

  5. I think the Internet has surpassed what people thought it could be. Because of it people can become educated and it can give someone a grasp of the world that otherwise they wouldn’t be able to fully understand. Unfortunately it also creates a bigger gap for those countries like Africa who can barely afford health care. Having Internet has become such a custom in my life that I cannot go a few hours without using it so it is always amazing to me when I remember that the Internet is relatively new. I am astonished at how my parents were able to stay so in tune with what was going on in the world with a few pics in their newspaper so I cannot imagine what a day in a life is for someone who hasn’t been introduced to any of that. Even though I don’t think I would personally last 5 days without Internet I think that’s a really great project. Good post!
